The perfect cacao recipe to start your day

So you managed to find a good source of cacao and now you’re looking how to prepare it. Great, you’ve come to the right place!
Below we’ll show you some of the key elements for your perfect cacao recipe. Simply follow the steps and create your perfect drink. Oh yeah, don’t forget to set your intention of drinking the cacao. Letting it guide you might allow you to discover something new!

1. Choose your dosage

Casual dose

10 - 20 gram

As a coffee replacement this is a perfect dose. The theobromine in the cacao gives you similar boost to cafeïne. However, the boost is more focussed on creativity and flow without the stressful feeling.

Oh yeah – did we tell you there is no crash as there can be with coffee?

Ceremonial dose

35 - 40 gram

Do you want to get the most out of your experience with mama cacao? Try a ceremonial dose! Follow this cacao recipe with intention and relax with some great music. Dive into yourself with a powerful meditation. The rest of the day you’ll experience increased levels of creativity and focus.

Be aware not to try this later in the afternoon as you might struggle to sleep at night due to the theobromine

2. Choose the liquid

Not sure how you like your drink the best? No worries, there is no fixed cacao recipe. You can drink it in any variation you like! To provide you with some guidance we’ve listed two options below. Slowly heat about 250 ml of the drink of choice and add the cacao. Make sure to prevent the cacao being exposed to a boiling liquid as it doesn’t benefit the taste nor the nutritional value. Between 70 – 80 degrees is sufficient since you’re only trying to melt the cacao to make it a nice drink!

Water

We generally prepare our drinks with water as it is the easiest. It allows for the most natural taste and is easily accessible also whilst travelling!

Milk

If you are looking for an alternative for water, milk is a great substitute. It provides more flavor compared to water and is easier to prepare foamy. If you’re the person that scoops out all the milk from your empty cappuccino cup, then this is your go to liquid. In principle, you can use any liquid you like (natural or plant based). Just make sure that is easily heatable as you’ll need to melt your cacao! Tip: if you really want to boost your health, try it with raw milk. Tastes amazing!

3. Shaken, not stirred

Seemed like a fun thing to say, no? Really, it doesn’t matter how you mix it as long as you do it thoroughly.

Use a whisk, a mixer, a shaker or a blender or anything you’re able to get your hands on. What you’re looking for are the bubbles on top of your drink, which are the fats of the cacao butter mixed with air.

Try mixing it with attention and take the time to prepare it. This will benefit your drink, but also allows you to be present and check in with yourself before drinking your hot treat!

4. Spice up your cacao recipe

Honey or maple syrup

To sweeten your drink we advise you to use a natural honey or maple syrup. The texture will thicken your drink and it will almost become like a creamy sweet treat. Of course dependent on your taste, but generally a teaspoon should be sufficient!

The perfect spices

There is many spices you can add

  • Cayenne pepper – This spice brings loads of health benefits! It boosts your immune system and relaxes your muscles. It contains vitamin B, C, E & K and can decrease inflammation.
  • Ceylon cinnamon Of course you can use all cinnamon, but if you are able to get your hands on ceylon it makes the treat even better. It tastes sweeter and can have a decrease on inflammation. Cassia on the other hand contains cumarine, which is not that great for you (No need to worry, only if you eat a tablespoon per day)

5. Enjoy your moment

Nice, you followed the cacao recipe and your drink is ready! Now it’s time to enjoy it. If you have one, pour it in a beautiful cup, play some music and light some incense. Enjoy!
